Common problems

Wolf cooktop problems: causes and repair

Common Wolf cooktop problems include an induction cooktop that does not work, a burner control that keeps blinking, a cooktop that shuts down while cooking, a gas burner that will not ignite and one that keeps clicking. Several start with the pan or a setting: Lock mode stops the controls, a blinking control means the induction cooktop is not sensing a flat, smooth pan with enough iron, and on gas models a wet or misplaced burner cap keeps the igniter clicking. Luxury Appliances Service checks ignition, the zones and controls and gives you the repair price before any work; gas and internal electrical work stay with the technician.

Wolf induction cooktop does not work

A Wolf induction cooktop that does not work can have a power, Lock mode or cookware cause you can check first.

Possible causes: No power; Lock mode; improper use of cookware; cookware that is not induction-compatible.

Check first: Check Lock mode and use a suitable flat, smooth pan with a strong magnetic pull.

When to call: The controls or zones still do not respond. We check power and controls.

Wolf induction burner control keeps blinking

A blinking burner control on a Wolf induction cooktop means it is not sensing the cookware, which can be a pan issue.

Possible causes: Cookware the cooktop cannot sense: a pan that is not flat, smooth or induction-compatible, or has too little iron.

Check first: Use a flat, smooth induction-compatible pan with enough iron for a strong magnetic pull.

When to call: A suitable pan still is not recognized. We check pan detection and the cooking zone.

Wolf cooktop shuts down while cooking

A Wolf cooktop that shuts down mid-cooking may be protecting itself from heat, or it can have an electrical or component fault.

Possible causes: The burner generator or element; the display module; the touch pad board; internal wiring; the supply cord; the power module; the installation or electrical supply; a shutdown to protect components from excessive heat.

When to call: The interruption repeats. We check the affected zone, cooling conditions and electrical system.

Wolf gas cooktop burner will not ignite

A Wolf CG cooktop or SRT rangetop burner that will not ignite can have a simple cleaning or placement cause, or an ignition or supply fault.

Possible causes: Spillover; burner placement; ignition components; gas supply; power; a dirty igniter; the regulator.

Check first: With the burner off and cool, gently clean the igniter with a soft, dry toothbrush.

When to call: It still will not light. We check the ignition system.

Wolf gas cooktop keeps clicking

A Wolf gas cooktop that keeps clicking can have wet or misplaced burner parts, or an ignition fault.

Possible causes: Wet burners; misplaced burner parts; pan size; an ignition fault.

Check first: Let a wet burner dry. Once it is cool, check that the caps sit flat and centered.

When to call: Sparking continues. We check the ignition; leave gas and wiring work to the technician.

Leave internal electrical, gas and power-module checks to the technician, and do not remove the glass or dismantle burners to investigate a fault. Causes and owner checks follow Wolf’s use-and-care information, checked in October 2026.

Error codes

Wolf cooktop error codes and display messages

Wolf cooktop codes depend on the type: on induction cooktops, E6 is an electrical supply error that cookware can contribute to, 3 means water or cookware covers the controls, U400 means excessive voltage, and 30 and E4 are control-board programming or configuration faults; on electric cooktops, E6 is a power-supply error and E5 a relay fault. For U400 or an electric-cooktop E6, stop using the cooktop until the supply has been checked, and leave internal electronics to the technician. We check the system the code names, then quote the repair. The meanings below follow Wolf’s use-and-care information, checked in October 2026.

Call (786) 808-7771
What does E6 mean on a Wolf induction cooktop?
An electrical supply error. Cookware can contribute; check that the pan is induction-compatible. Arrange service if E6 returns with suitable cookware.
What does 3 mean on a Wolf induction cooktop?
Water or cookware covering the glass over the controls. Clear water and cookware from the controls. Arrange service if the warning returns with clean, uncovered glass.
What does U400 mean on a Wolf induction cooktop?
Excessive voltage. Do not use the cooktop until the incoming voltage has been checked.
What does 30 mean on a Wolf induction cooktop?
A data-writing fault after software programming. A persistent warning needs a control-board programming check; leave internal electronics to the technician.
What does E4 mean on a Wolf induction cooktop?
An invalid control configuration involving the control board. Arrange a control-board configuration check if the message persists or heating remains unavailable.
What does E6 mean on a Wolf electric cooktop?
A power-supply error. Do not use the cooktop until its electrical supply has been checked.
What does E5 mean on a Wolf electric cooktop?
A relay fault. Leave the cooktop off until its heating-control relay has been checked.

We work on CG gas cooktops, SRT sealed-burner rangetops and CI induction and CE electric cooktops and check the ignition or zone at fault. The diagnostic is $145 per appliance and is credited toward the repair. You get the repair price before any work, at market prices with no markup because of the home or the address. We use original parts directly from the manufacturer; if a part is not on hand, we order it and install it on a return visit. The repair is backed by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor, and we speak Spanish.

Repair or replace

Is your Wolf cooktop worth repairing?

Repair usually makes sense when the rest of the cooktop is sound and the fault is in one part, such as an igniter, a burner part or one induction zone. Wolf says its appliances are engineered and tested for 20-plus years of everyday use. A common rule of thumb is to replace an appliance when the repair would cost more than half the price of a new one; for a cooktop fitted into your countertop, compare with a new one that fits the same opening, plus installation. We give you the repair price before any work, so you decide with the number in hand.

Call (786) 808-7771

Can a discontinued Wolf electric cooktop still be repaired?

Yes. Wolf discontinued electric cooktops in 2025, but an installed CE cooktop can still be assessed for its actual fault. We check the required part and repair price before you decide whether to keep the existing installation.

Why won’t my Wolf induction cooktop heat my pan?

Often it is the pan: Wolf induction cookware must be flat, smooth and contain enough iron for a strong magnetic pull, and a blinking control means no cookware is detected. If a suitable pan is still not recognized, we check the zone and controls.

How much is a Wolf cooktop diagnostic?

The diagnostic fee is $145 per appliance, credited toward the repair. You pay it on its own only if you decide not to repair. We give the repair price before any work so you can compare it with a fully installed replacement.

FAQ

Wolf cooktop repair questions

CG cooktops and SRT rangetops use gas ignition; CI surfaces detect induction-compatible cookware. We check the installed cooking surface so a pan-detection problem and an ignition fault receive the right service.

Call (786) 808-7771
Do you repair Wolf SRT rangetops?
Yes. We repair Wolf SRT sealed-burner rangetops as well as CG gas cooktops. A rangetop has surface burners without an oven underneath; choose Wolf range repair for a complete stove with an oven.
Why won’t my Wolf electric cooktop turn on?
Check the power supply and Lock mode first; on a Wolf CE electric cooktop, incorrect cookware use can also prevent operation. Keep the cooktop installed and leave the glass, internal wiring and power modules to the technician; we check the failed zone and quote any repair before work.
How do I clean a Wolf cooktop igniter?
With the burner off and cool, gently clean it with a soft, dry toothbrush. If ignition remains unreliable, arrange a check of the burner and ignition system.
