Common problems

JennAir cooktop problems: causes and repair

A JennAir gas burner that clicks but will not light can have a cap not seated on its base, clogged ports or damp parts, an uneven flame can come from mismatched caps and bases or ports clogged by dishwasher detergent, a cooktop with a lockout feature will not light during a power failure, and an induction zone heats only with suitable cookware. Luxury Appliances Service checks the ignition, heating and downdraft faults that remain and gives you the repair price before any work.

JennAir cooktop burner clicks but will not light

A JennAir gas burner that clicks but will not light can have a simple cap, port or moisture cause you can check, or an ignition fault.

Possible causes: A burner cap not seated properly on the burner base; clogged burner ports; burners damp from cleaning or a spill.

Check first: With the burner cool, check that its cap sits correctly and let damp parts dry fully. All burners can click while only the selected one lights.

When to call: Ignition still fails. We check the ignition and burner system.

JennAir cooktop flame is uneven or unstable

An uneven or unstable JennAir burner flame points to the caps, bases or ports, and the way burner parts are cleaned can cause it.

Possible causes: Caps and bases that do not match; clogged burner ports, including from dishwasher detergent; enlarged or distorted ports.

Check first: Match each cap to its own base, keep burner parts out of the dishwasher and do not enlarge the ports.

When to call: The flame stays uneven or simmer fails. We check the burners and simmer operation.

JennAir gas cooktop will not turn on

A JennAir gas cooktop that will not light can be held off by a power failure or, after a new installation, by the gas supply.

Possible causes: A power failure on cooktops with a lockout feature; trapped air in the gas line or a closed main gas valve after a new installation.

Check first: Check whether the power is out; a cooktop with a lockout feature cannot light until it returns. Leave gas-supply checks to the technician.

When to call: It still will not light with power on, or it was just installed. Our technician bleeds air from the gas line and verifies the main gas valve.

JennAir cooktop burner pops after cleaning

Popping from a JennAir burner right after cleaning or a spill can be moisture, which clears once the parts dry.

Check first: Switch the burner off and let it dry thoroughly.

When to call: Popping continues with dry parts, or the flame is unstable. Our technician checks the burner.

JennAir cooktop induction zone will not heat

A JennAir induction zone that will not heat can be a cookware issue rather than a fault, since induction works only with suitable pans.

Check first: Try a pan rated for induction. A low hum at high power or crackling with mixed-material cookware can be normal.

When to call: The zone still will not heat with suitable cookware. We check the controls and heating.

JennAir cooktop downdraft does not clear cooking odors

A JennAir downdraft that leaves odors behind can start with a grease filter sitting at the wrong angle, which you can check yourself.

Possible causes: A grease filter lying flat against the fan wall, which restricts airflow.

Check first: With the downdraft off, check that the filter sits at its intended angle.

When to call: Extraction stays weak. We assess the filter fit, fan and vent path.

Let the cooking surface and burner parts cool before touching them. Leave gas valves, supply connections and internal electrical repairs to the technician. Causes and owner checks follow JennAir’s use-and-care information, checked in October 2026.

Error codes

JennAir cooktop error codes and display messages

JennAir electric and induction cooktops show F and FC codes for faults in heating zones, touch controls, power boards and their wiring, and induction models also show E codes when the module or an overheated surface switches the controls off; the same code can mean different things on radiant and induction models. The meanings below follow JennAir’s use-and-care information, checked in October 2026. Write down the full code, stop using the affected zone and leave internal electrical work to the technician.

Your JennAir cooktop repair: visit, diagnostic, parts, warranty

Luxury Appliances Service repairs JennAir cooktops in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, seven days a week, with a $145 diagnostic per appliance, credited toward the repair; the repair price before any work, at market prices with no markup because of the home or the address; original parts directly from the manufacturer, ordered and installed on a return visit if a part is not on hand; and a 90-day warranty on parts and labor. That includes gas, electric and induction cooktops, among them surfaces with built-in downdraft ventilation. We speak Spanish.

Repair or replace

Is your JennAir cooktop worth repairing?

Repair usually makes sense when the rest of the cooktop is sound: a single burner, heating zone or downdraft fault can be repaired without replacing a fitted JennAir surface, and a replacement would have to fit both the counter opening and the ventilation. A common rule of thumb is that if a repair costs more than half the price of a new cooktop, replacing it may make more sense. We quote the repair before any work.

Call (786) 808-7771

Can JennAir cooktops be repaired?

Yes. Our JennAir cooktop work includes a burner that would not hold a simmer and needed a valve replacement, and a single burner fault does not require replacing the whole cooking surface. We check the burner before quoting the work.

Can a weak JennAir downdraft be fixed without a new cooktop?

Yes. The grease filter must sit at an angle; laying it flat against the fan wall reduces ventilation. Check its position with the vent off. If extraction stays weak, we assess the fan and vent path.

How much is a JennAir cooktop diagnostic?

The diagnostic fee is $145 per appliance, credited toward the repair. You pay it on its own only if you decide not to repair. We give the price before work.

FAQ

JennAir cooktop repair questions

Clicking during ignition, a hot-surface light and noises from induction cookware do not always mean a failed JennAir cooktop. Persistent heating or control trouble is assessed in the affected burner or zone.

Call (786) 808-7771
Why do all my JennAir burners click when I light one?
The ignition system can spark at all burners while only the selected burner receives gas and lights. Clicking that continues after the control leaves LITE can need service; allow wet burner parts to dry first.
Why does the JennAir hot-surface light stay on after cooking?
A control may still be on, or the element may still be too hot to touch. Turn the controls off and let the surface cool. Arrange service if the light stays on when the surface is cold.
Can JennAir burner caps and bases go in the dishwasher?
No. Detergent can clog the gas ports and affect ignition or flame stability. Match each cooled cap to its own base after cleaning. We check a burner that still lights poorly with the parts correctly fitted.
Why does my gas burner relight by itself?
A JennAir cooktop with reignition can relight a burner when its flame goes out. If the flame repeatedly goes out or reignition fails, switch that burner off and arrange service.
Why won’t my JennAir electric coil cooktop turn on?
On a knob-controlled electric coil cooktop, push the knob in before turning it to a setting. If the element still stays cold, we check the heating zone and controls.
