Common problems
We repair Sub-Zero cooling, ice-making and closing faults. The technician checks the affected compartment, door or water system and explains the cause before quoting the repair. A temperature warning, a leak and a door that will not close need different checks.
Warm food can come from restricted airflow, a door that is not sealing, a dirty condenser or a fault in the fan, controls or cooling system. In Sub-Zero units with separate refrigerator and freezer cooling, a cold freezer does not rule out a refrigerator fault. We check the warm compartment and explain the repair before replacing parts.
A warm Sub-Zero freezer can have a fan, sensor, thermostat, door-seal or sealed-system fault. A newly started freezer, or one with a changed setting, needs at least 24 hours to reach temperature. For a freezer that has lost cooling during normal use, arrange repair; refrigerant work is for the technician.
For a Sub-Zero 600 Series in-freezer ice maker, check that the freezer is at or below 5°F; 0°F is recommended. A jammed cube, low water pressure, a frozen fill tube or a warm freezer can interrupt in-freezer ice making. We repair both in-freezer and separate undercounter ice makers; book service if production stays low or stops.
For warm Sub-Zero wine storage, clean the condenser if it has not been cleaned in three months. Fan, temperature-control and sealed-system faults can also affect cooling. A Designer Undercounter unit chimes after an extended temperature deviation of 10°F above or 5°F below its setting. Arrange service for the affected wine zone.
First look for an item blocking the Sub-Zero drawer or slides. A broken slide or an ice maker arm stuck down can keep the upper freezer basket from sliding back. If the drawer closes by hand but its soft-close does not work, check whether it is empty or overloaded. Book drawer repair if closing trouble continues.

Between service visits
A clean condenser, sound door seals and the right filter schedule help you look after your Sub-Zero. Use the care instructions for your appliance, switch it off before cleaning and leave repairs or installation adjustments to a technician. Persistent temperature loss needs a service visit.
Clean the condenser every six to twelve months, more often with pets. For PRO refrigeration, use the shorter interval of every three to six months. Turn the unit off first and use a soft brush and vacuum without bending the fins. Skip chemical degreasers. If temperatures have not returned to the setting within 24 hours after cleaning, or the condenser warning returns, call for service rather than repeatedly clearing the warning.
Look for food or a container preventing full closure, then inspect the gasket for dirt, tears or damage. With the unit off, clean the seal with mild detergent, water and a soft cloth; rinse and dry it thoroughly. A torn gasket needs replacement, and a door that still catches or leaves a gap needs checking. Do not force it closed or assume a new gasket will correct a crooked cabinet panel.
For Sub-Zero refrigerators with water filtration, replace the filter when the indicator appears or at about one year. For an older undercounter ice machine with a REPLACE FILTER light, the care schedule is six months, after a prolonged shutdown or after 8,000 ice-making cycles. Follow the filter instructions for that appliance rather than applying the refrigerator interval to a bar ice machine. A leak or continued poor flow after replacement needs checking.
Keep the appliance’s ventilation openings clear and avoid covering the grille with stored items or new decorative trim. Do not remove leveling legs to squeeze an undercounter unit into a smaller opening; this restricts air circulation. If a door has become hard to close or the unit seems uneven, have its level and fitted clearances checked. Leave movement, leveling and cabinet adjustments to the technician.
Miami neighborhoods

Repair or replace
Repair usually makes sense when the rest of the Sub-Zero is sound and one fault is to blame: replacing a fitted unit also means removal, installation and often panel or cabinet work. Sub-Zero says its refrigerators are tested to handle at least 20 years of everyday use. A common rule of thumb: if a repair costs more than half the price of a new appliance, replacement may make more sense; for a built-in, compare our repair price with the full installed cost of the new unit.

An older Sub-Zero with one repairable fault deserves a different comparison from a unit with repeated failures; make that decision from the diagnosis and installed replacement cost.
