A Viking oven owner describes slow preheating, uneven cooking and a clear repair estimate.

  • Thumbtack

Our Viking oven needed much longer than usual to preheat and still cooked unevenly. The technician was punctual, methodical, and patient with my questions. The estimate was clear and the repair felt like a fair value.

Common problems

Viking cooktop problems: causes and repair

Common Viking cooktop problems include igniters that do not work, sparks with no flame, clicking after lighting, a large or yellow flame and an induction cooktop that will not heat a pan or turns itself off. Many have a first cause you can check: a tripped breaker, a gas supply valve turned off, a wet igniter or cookware without a magnetic base. Luxury Appliances Service checks ignition, gas setup and induction heating and gives you the repair price before any work; gas and internal wiring stay with the technician.

Viking gas cooktop igniters do not work

Igniters that do not work on a 5 Series gas cooktop can have a household power cause you can check first.

Possible causes: A tripped circuit; a blown fuse; the cooktop not connected to power.

Check first: Check the house breaker without opening the appliance.

When to call: Power is available and the igniters still do not work. We inspect the ignition system.

Viking cooktop sparks but has no flame

A 5 Series burner that sparks but will not light points to the gas supply and needs a check before further use.

Possible causes: A gas supply valve turned off; an interrupted gas supply.

What to do first: Stop repeated ignition attempts.

When to call: The burner still will not light. We check the supply and ignition system before further use.

Viking cooktop keeps clicking after lighting

A 5 Series gas cooktop that keeps clicking after lighting can have a simple moisture or cleaning cause, or an electrical supply problem.

Possible causes: Wet or dirty igniters; an ungrounded power supply; reversed polarity.

Check first: Let the cool surface dry after cleaning.

When to call: Clicking continues. We inspect the ignition and the electrical supply.

Viking cooktop flame is large or yellow

A large, distorted or yellow flame on a 5 Series gas cooktop points to a burner or gas-setup problem.

Possible causes: Clogged burner ports; the wrong gas type; misadjusted air shutters.

What to do first: Stop using the affected burner. Do not adjust gas fittings yourself.

When to call: The flame stays large or yellow. We check burner condition and gas setup.

Viking induction cooktop does not heat a pan

A Viking induction cooktop that will not heat a pan can come down to the cookware, which you can test with a magnet.

Possible causes: Cookware without a magnetic base, such as plain copper, glass or aluminum.

Check first: Hold a magnet to the pan bottom; it should stick. Stainless steel, enamel and cast iron are usually induction-friendly.

When to call: Suitable cookware still fails. We check detection and the affected element.

Viking induction cooktop reduces heat and turns off

A 5 Series induction cooktop that reduces power and shuts off can be protecting itself from overheating.

Possible causes: Overheating, which first makes the indicator flash faster and reduces element power.

What to do first: Stop cooking and let it cool.

When to call: Shutdowns keep recurring. We inspect cooling and controls.

Gas, internal wiring and induction power repairs belong with the technician; do not open the cooking surface. Causes and owner checks follow Viking’s use-and-care information, checked in October 2026.

The repair is backed by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor, and we speak Spanish.

Repair or replace

Is your Viking cooktop worth repairing?

Repair usually makes sense when the rest of the cooktop is sound and the fault is in one part, such as an igniter, a burner or one induction element. A common rule of thumb is to replace an appliance when the repair would cost more than half the price of a new one; for a cooktop fitted into your countertop, compare with a new one that fits the same opening, plus installation. We give you the repair price before any work, so you decide with the number in hand.

Why does one Viking induction element lose power when I use another?

On 5 Series induction cooktops, two elements can share a power zone, and boosting one automatically reduces power to the other. If an element stays cold outside that condition, we check its heating and controls.

Do wet Viking igniters need to be replaced?

Not usually: wet or dirty igniters can keep a 5 Series gas cooktop sparking, so let the surface cool and dry first. If sparking continues, we check ignition, grounding and supply polarity.

How much is a Viking cooktop diagnostic?

The diagnostic fee is $145 per appliance, credited toward the repair. You pay it on its own only if you decide not to repair. We give you the repair price before work.

FAQ

Viking cooktop repair questions

Flashing induction indicators can describe pan detection or a hot surface, while a gas burner that keeps clicking needs ignition checks. We distinguish those conditions before recommending repair.

Call (786) 808-7771
Can I use a downdraft with a Viking grill rangetop?
No. Viking downdrafts are intended for non-grill Professional and Viking Line cooktops and rangetops, so a grill rangetop needs its ventilation setup checked separately.
Why is the filter light on my Viking downdraft?
It comes on after 30 hours of use as a reminder to clean the filters, which are dishwasher-safe. Clean them under the care instructions; if extraction remains poor, arrange ventilation service.
Does a Viking induction cooktop get hot?
Yes, from the pan: induction heats the magnetic pan directly and leaves the surface cooler than a traditional electric cooktop, but the surface can stay hot after cooking. Wait for the residual-heat indication to clear before touching it.
Why is my Viking induction cooktop flashing blue or white?
A flashing blue light, or white light in BOOST, means a 5 Series induction element is not detecting a pan. Use cookware with a magnetic base. If the warning continues with suitable cookware, arrange a pan-detection check.
Why does my Viking induction light flash after I turn it off?
Alternating blue and white after switch-off means the 5 Series induction surface is still cooling. Leave it untouched until it cools. Arrange service if the indication persists on a cold surface or comes with a heating fault.
